In the second and final, non-scientific survey on the greatest beauty products on the planet –subjectively speaking — ten women (including moi meme) responded to this simple question:
“What are the two products you cannot live without?”
Now, one would think that’s a simple query, but of course it’s not. It requires intensive mental mulling and culling while the subjects make their earthshaking decisions and try to remember the name of not only the brand, but also the exact creme in an infinite range of offerings within a cosmetic line.
This week’s group was easier to control than those from the previous sampling last Monday although they tended to say, “You know, the one with the gold top” or “the red jar.” Well of course I don’t know, so it turned out to be a call-back, time-consuming project, but since my raison d’etre is to provide the most current news and views from this side of the Atlantic, I was prepared to do what was necessary.
While I waited for the calls, I applied an Avene moisturizing masque.
The following is what they told me:
Mimi: Roche-Posay kohl in deep black and Uriage Hyseac no-rinse cleanser. “I only use hypo-allergenique products.”
Edith: YSL Touché Eclat and Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Eye Recovery Complex. (“Even though I’ve used the creme for years I feel obliged to mention if you put it too close to your eyes, you wake-up all puffy. You have to be careful. I just thought your readers would like to know that, in other words I’ve already tested it for them.”) Thank you, Edith.
Katy: Estee Lauder Revelation Brightening Creme and YSL Effect Faux Cils mascara in marron.
Christine: Contour des Yeux Nuxe Bio Beaute and Avene Lotion Micellaire no-rinse formula facial cleanser.
Geraldine: Ictyane shower gel — “it has a light, lovely rose fragrance” — and La Roche-Posay creme de jour Toleraine.
Laetitia: Guerlain creme de jour (“in the blue jar”) and Bioderma Crealine H2O facial cleanser.
Elizabeth: Agnes b “3D” Mascara in black and Agnes b Enlumineur in opal (under makeup illuminator).
Marie-Helene: Nuxe Creme Merveillance and Mixa Confort Visage facial cleanser.
Christine: L’Oreal Color Riche Shine Gelée lipstick (pictured at the top) in some shade of rose and L’Oreal Repulpeur-Collagen creme de nuit.
Letitia (Moi, note the French spelling of my name above, which is always the way everyone misspells it here. Am I digressing again?): Retin A and Roche-Posay Substiane XL — dermatologist recommended btw. I’ve been using Retin A for at least 15 years every day.
Et voila, the report from the field: high, low, with the classic French emphasis on treatment and maintenance products. (And of course mascara, EVERYONE wants mascara.)
