You are going to love today’s post — all pictures, almost no words, lots of gorgeous women of a certain age. The youngest, mere babes (by both definitions) just breaking into their 40s and our favorite woman of all time, Helen Mirren, looking as the French would say: resplendissante (shining, sparkling, gorgeous) at the 63rd Festival de Cannes.
Cate Blanchett got mixed reviews (some downright nasty negative) on her choice of the quirky Alexander McQueen dress. I think the statement she was making as a tribute to the late creator spoke volumes about her. She is stunning, always — full stop.
A little gossip-light (like Coca-Cola Light): Woody Allen, worshiped by the French public, confessed in an “exclusive interview” that he hated events like Cannes with all the flashbulbs and yelling and la-dee-da. He appeared quite happy on the arm of Naomi Watts who protected him from the frantic fray.
And the women are:
1.) Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford
2.) Cate Blanchett
3.) Kristen Scott Thomas
4.) Lt. to Rt: Mireille Darc, Elsa Zilberstein, France’s Minister of Culture, Frederic Mitterrand, and Arielle Dombasle (Madame Bernard-Henri Levy) doing that stupid moue thing she does all the time for the cameras.
5.) Francois-Henri Pinault and his wife, Salma Hayek (wearing Gucci, which is logical since her husband owns the company)
6.) Sandrine Bonnaire
7.) Ellen Barkin (looking not quite like Ellen Barkin although she maintains that amazing body of hers)
8.) Michelle Yeoh
9.) Alain Delon with his daughter, Anouchka, and his great friend, Claudia Cardinale
10.) Pedro Almodovar on the arm of one of his muses, Marisa Paredes
11.) Isabelle Huppert
12.) Naomi Watts, comforting poor Woody Allen
13.) Clotilde Courau who in real life is “Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Savoie, Venice and Piemont”
14.) Diane Lane and Josh Brolin.
More next week, stay tuned.
