Many of you have asked me to talk about shoes — comfortable shoes, no wobbly wedges, scary stilettos or bulky boots. I understand. I’m assuming we have similar desires: charming, comfortable, “cutting edge” chaussures. And why not, particularly if some of the latest models allow us to look hip without breaking a hip.
This fall no one should be falling off her shoes.
I’m not late knowing about them, I mean fashion is my life after all, I’m just late talking about them: kitten heels. They are everywhere from the runways to les rues, already crossing every price point. I noticed Target has a pair in leopard — are you paying attention Pseu?
Some women hate them, believing they are an unattractive compromise.
Personally, I like them. They give the leg a little lift, a nice curve to the calf. It’s been years since I’ve teetered on towering talons, actually I was quite adept at the balancing act, but those days are long over. (I still fancy them btw — on other women.)
I like my moccasins, ballerinas and my kittens. As you can see in the moccasin versions, “kitten” does not necessarily mean delicate and sometimes the heels are not as low as they once were.
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama love them, as did Audrey Hepburn.
My extraordinary shoe man changed an old pair of Chanel kitten heels from brown and black to dark gray and black. Shopping in my closet again, such fun.
If you are buying into the “Mad Men” mania hot off the runways, kitten heels offer the best balance for the look — literally and figuratively.
I’m Off. . .
I’m running out the door to meet friends from New York for lunch at the Café Marly. I told them about the restaurant a year ago — if you haven’t been there, the terrace offers a view right through I.M. Pei’s pyramid to the Louvre — and now they want to go back. I think part of the reason is because it’s unspeakably trendy and when we were there last time we saw Mary McFadden and Meg Ryan. Since it’s chilly today and rain is forecast, I suppose we will be inside, thus an interior shot for your perusal.
Maybe, just maybe I will see about taking pictures.
Ed. Note: Upon my return I’ll give you the shoe details.
