Must say, I’m exceedingly flattered that French Elle is reading this blog (ahem. . .). That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why it did a feature on the 20 Wardrobe Musts. To be perfectly honest — you expect no less, of course — the article had a different twist than my rather straight forward version herein.
Instead of simply asking the editors what they thought should be in everyone’s closets, they culled pictures of what the French call “People” — we call them “celebs” or “wannabees” — pulling off their bodies the “must own” items.
Thanks to my discerning eye and the fact I’m the chief of the No One Our Age Wants to Look Like a Fool Police Department, I’ve whittled the magazine selections down to a few choice pieces for us.
I mean really, distressed jeans? It distresses me to even think about them. Maybe for gardening? Also, although I do see this in France, jeans so skinny that a woman literally appears to be poured into them. With few exceptions — correct me if I’m mistaken — this is a morphological difference between the French and the rest of us.
They work on most any age over here because the women are slim enough to wear slims. But I didn’t include them in my abbreviated list.
What I have included is the following:
1.) Huge, beautiful foulard on Claudia Schiffer (she’s a People of course). Her scarf is from Balmain. (It was most certainly a gift.)
2.) Red sunglasses. What fun.
3.) Plaid shirt, you have lots of colors and plaid choices which is always nice. This one is from J.Crew and you’re allowed to tuck it in. You know, the devil is in the details.
4.) 501 the classic “boyfriend” jeans.
5.) The, yes we’ve seen this a lot recently in this space, but it is fantastic, the Alexa Mulberry bag. Who wouldn’t want it and it comes in classic and not so classic colors.
The more I see it, the more I want it.
What I’m wearing today:
I’m not leaving the house btw (just saying).
1.) Gray flannel trousers.
2.) Navy long-sleeve T-shirt.
3.) Navy lizard belt.
4.) Navy ballerinas.
5.) Lapis lazuli earrings.
6.) Huge foulard/shawl in a sort of zig-zaggy something-or-other print, in the following colors: ecru, navy, Klein blue, shocking pink, yellow, pale blue, rust and where the blue overlaps the yellow, a pretty green. It’s gorgeous. The material is wool gauze. I found it years ago in a boutique in the Marais.
(I’ll start taking pictures of some of my accessories. You’ve asked about my every day bag. I’ll photograph it and show you. It’s a prototype which was never produced so it’s very special. You’ll see.)
*Ed. Note: I would love to do a post or two on traveling to warm climates, but I need to know more about you. Do you wear skirts? Do you like linen? Do you wear bermudas? Do you like long? Body type, etc. (You remain anonymous so don’t be shy.)
Remember my Top 20 was chosen specifically for my lifestyle and my body.
