Now that we’ve reviewedPsycholgies magazine’s examination of beauty from the more esoteric and scientific perspectives, surely we would be disappointed if we didn’t get down to the “so then what?” part of the story.
Any time one is reading a magazine that discusses/examines that most lucrative of income producing areas — read “beauty advertising”– we know the marketing department would not allow the editorial department to miss such a platinum opportunity.
To cover this rich (un)natural resource the magazine turned to experts for some “real” beauty advice so, theoretically, we’ll enhance our reflected images and be happy to spend whatever it takes to do so.
Since 45 percent of Frenchwomen say they don’t feel they have sufficient time to devote to their care, maintenance and makeup routines, the question posed to the experts was: “What’s the best way to take care of ourselves in 10 minutes. Focus (SVP) on the most effective rituals.”
My pharmacist friend, who sells Nuxe products, loves this masque.
Aliza Jabes, President, Nuxe: “Normally I use our creme fraiche masque on the weekends. I apply a thick layer 10 minutes before taking my shower, then in the shower I use the mask like a cleanser and gently rub my face and then rinse. Next I rub Huile Prodigieuse into the ends of my hair.”

Ed. Note: Is it me or did she not understand the question?
Mister Smooth, a light primer to be mixed with foundation, from Givenchy.
Nicolas Degennes, Artistic Director, Givenchy: “Spray the face with a mineral water, blot with a tissue and apply day cream. Quickly mix a small amount of foundation in the hands with Mister Smooth, apply immediately, massaging lightly without forgetting the neck. Take a small amount of foundation on the tip of the finger and tap it lightly under the eyes.
“Add a little powder with a large brush, a touch of color on the eyelid, some blush on the cheeks and on the lips with the tip of a finger.”
The Clarisonic brush, about which a dear friend of mine says, “They’ll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.” It seems she is very fond of hers.
Axel Doye, Director of “Formation”, Clarisonic: “To revive the skin’s natural tint and prepare it for makeup, I recommend using a Clarisonic brush.” (Ed. Note: Imagine that. . .?)
After the brush ritual “. . . apply a serum and a day cream. The skin will be luminous and ready for makeup.”
Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons bronzing powder.
Olivier Echaudemaison, Artistic Director, Guerlain: “I recommend an extremely light foundation like Terracotta Skin, it’s easy to apply and it gives a unifying coverage while giving the skin a certain éclat. For a look ‘three weeks in the sun in three seconds’ apply Terracotta 4 Seasons powder. Use a very large brush for application.
“Finally, don’t forget to brush eyebrows neatly into place and ‘vous coiffer‘ — those are two indispensable gestures to feel beautiful.”
Ed. Note: I interviewed Olivier for my book. He is hilarious. I’ve known him for decades. During our interview he taught me how to use Terracotta 4 Seasons bronzing powder, after he chose the right color for me. (I’ll tell you how to use it in another post.)
