Maybe it was serendipity.
I no longer remember how I “found” Elise. Elise is our femme de menage, but she is much more than that. She is the woman who makes my life so much easier and so much more pleasant. Yes, she cleans our house, but she also brings us fresh fruits and vegetables from her enormouspotager, makes wonderful soups in the winter and when I say to Charlotte, “Elise is coming today,” she becomes wildly excited and heads out to the gate to wait for her.
Elise has solutions for everything: herbal concoctions as diuretics, herbal teas to sleep or relax (all herbs from her garden or ours), a bowl of water and a half lemon, two minutes in the microwave and presto it’s perfectly clean. Yesterday after a major encounter with mosquitoes she told me to go out to our potager, pluck some mint and rub the leaves on the itching bites. Of course, like everything else she tells me, it worked.
She also reads tarot cards. I’ll tell you more about her talent in another post.
Now I’m off to weed the potager. My cucumbers are surrounded.
