Red lips, black glasses. . . what more does a girl need?
Last week when I moved into a Paris hotel to play with my pal Teri Agins, in the morning when I went down to the dining room to meet her for petit dejeuner I wore my “classic” presentable-in-a-pinch face.
It did, and always does, consist of: moisturizer (of course), my tortoise Ray-Ban Wayfarer (prescription) sunglasses and a colored lip balm. This combo is my out-the-door look when I know I won’t be engaging anyone in real conversation because, and I think we all agree, there is nothing more annoying, or rude, than to wear sunglasses — when they’re not necessary for screening the sun and are in fact an affectation.
My prescription Ray-Ban Wayfarers are probably my most important accessory
I think this quick fix respects the make an effort look for quick errands like buying a baguette, walking the dog, shovelling snow off the porch, picking up the mail and it’s wonderful for speaking on the phone. Sunglasses are soooo restful first thing in the morning.
Like everything else in the world of beauty, choosing the right red is primordial. Above these cherry tones from Chanel and L’Oreal are supposedly the best options for me. Click here to see what Allure magazine has to say about reds that compliment different skin colors.
Teri admitted it was one of her go-to beauty tricks for similar occasions in New York.
Here’s how you do it in 60 seconds from the time your feet hit the floor in the morning (as if anyone doesn’t already know this) to out-the-door (getting dressed time not included): Rinse face, blot dry, slather on moisturizer, apply favorite lipstick — many women believe red is the only choice in this situation ( I never wear red, it’s frightening on me for some reason), slip on sunglasses — go. . .
If you’re thinking I’m an idiot, feel free to tell me. I won’t be offended because I can’t help but agree with you.
