Often I cannot imagine that French Elle and Figaro Madame for example are weekly fashion magazines. How do the editors consistently invent mostly clever and entertaining articles?
Recently Figaro Madame came up with an inventive idea for a light, but interesting story.
In a piece entitled FASHION GENERATIONS (all caps) a writer asked nine models ranging in age from 17 to 80 from France, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Russia and Switzerland, the following question: “Quel est pour vous le plus bel age?”
The very young French model, Pauline Goli, 17, had the grace to preface her response by admitting that she didn’t have a great deal of reference or experience for the moment, but added — and I thought this was rather sweet — that she was relieved to no longer be 16.
Georgina Grenville, 39, from South Africa said she was looking forward to her fortieth birthday this year, noting that she is just beginning to feel “bien dans ma peau.”
For our purposes let’s focus on the women of a certain age, here is what they said:
French model, Anne Rohart, 55, had a marvelous response. “Rendezvous in 30 years when I’ve lived through other adventures. Every age is “accompanied” by its joys and doubts. “I don’t think there is a period in [one’s life] that is more blessed than another. One constantly reinvents oneself.”
Swiss model, Catherine Loewe, 60, said she began to feel bien dans sa peau in the decade from the ages 40-50. “I’ve only been a model for three years; I was a lawyer. That just proves one never knows what surprises life holds.
“The older I get, the more serene I feel. One must live life fully in the present instant.”
German model, Eveline Hall, 69, reposed the question, “What’s the best age? I would say it’s this very moment. I would like to be an inspiration for young women, to prove there are no age limits. My face reflects my life, my personality. One has to forget about surgery and liftings, one can be beautiful and sexy, but one can no longer be young.”
German model, Renata Reutter, 80, said her 40s were the most fulfilling decade of her life. “That is when I met the man who would become my husband and who always made me feel beautiful.”
