Today one of my very best friends in the world is in Paris so I’m rushing out the door to meet her for lunch at the rue Royale Ladurée where I will no doubt have my favorite omelette. Immediately after, we’re going shopping. She specifically asked me to take her to my bag store.
Later in the afternoon we’re meeting other friends for cocktails at the Hôtel Meurice.
Before I leave, I wanted to tell you about yesterday. For some reason, I participated in giving and receiving lots of kisses — the French kind, on the cheeks — from men, which made me think about how much I really, really like the tradition.
One reason I really, really like the ritual is that men actually (with a few annoying exceptions) actually give real kisses. Not many are into the air kiss-kiss thing most women perform. Maybe it has something to do with lipstick? No, probably not.
Maybe one of you can explain it to me.
My point being, that one of the best parts of this lovely gesture is perfume. Men love to smell our perfume in close, but not intimate exchanges like these (they like it those situations as well, but that’s another story). I think we too enjoy that facet of the kisses.
It’s a sensual pleasure to breathe in the fragrance of a woman or a man. Context.
I have a HUGE surprise for you over the weekend.
