W had a little dinner party last night, four friends, simple, fun and lasting well into the early morning — 2:30a.m.
Our entrée was asparagus with a simple butter/lemon sauce; the plat, poached salmon with epinard à la creme; followed by a lovely fresh chèvre, with a perfect baguette from our boulanger; and lovely individual tartelettes aux fraises from Clarise whose husband was once with the Ritz and the divine caterer, LaNôtre.
We opened at least four bottles of wine during the meal and the evening was so beautiful that we had Champagne in the garden before we came inside for dinner. It’s still a little chilly to dine outside.
One of my great friends gave me a delicious all natural agrume scented candle from Solyvia, an artisanal company in Corsica. It smelled so wonderful that we kept passing it around the table taking deep breaths of the fresh perfume.
I love a gift that is made in France from a little known brand.
