Several of my blogging friends have told me that some of their followers became either disappointed or downright angry when they decided to do affiliate sponsoring or accept ads for their sites.
Among my wonderful girlfriends — some virtual, others face-to-face “real” — all are completely honest, professional and forthright about their relationships with affiliate sponsors. In other words, they never associate with products they don’t believe in and they tell you upfront about their agreement.
Let me assure you, they are far, far more honest than magazines, particularly when it comes to beauty products.
Beauty products are the life’s breath of magazines.
Others filter and accept or reject advertising offers. Each one is guided by her taste and integrity.
Now, here comes the denouement of our exchange. After all of these years and the more than 40 hours each week that go into writing, not to mention non-stop thinking, about this blog and how I can make it interesting and fun for you, I’ve decided to seriously think about accepting advertising.
My criteria for doing so would be exactly the same as it has always been: products I like, would 0r do use and think are worthwhile, clothes and accessories that are beautiful and flattering.
Let me give you a rebuttal for the argument you may be forming in your mind as you read this: You can choose to look at the ads, or not. You will always have the same content in the posts. Think of the change as a magazine you can choose to open and read with a mere tap of your finger wherein you do not have to wade through pages of advertising.
I promise always to tell you what I’m doing and why.
Recently I’ve been approached by companies that want to do giveaways with me. Now that would be interesting for you, non?
As one of my close blogger friends — an internationally acclaimed site I must add — pointed out, “our blogs are our jobs. It’s not shocking or unreasonable that we are paid for the time and creativity that go into turning out entertaining material. The best part of our little worlds is that our readers and followers, unlike with a magazine for example, only have to click to read us. They can ignore all the rest if they so desire.”
Those of us who have had this conversation all agree we love our jobs and I can tell you with the deepest gratitude, you are the reason why.
Your thoughts please.
