Unfortunately I have never met Ellie O’Connell, the remarkable — in more ways than most of us could ever imagine — woman who has inspired so much affection and admiration in the world of blogging and beyond.
I know some of her friends, and they love her. Those of us who know her solely through her brilliant and often brilliantly funny blog, Have Some Decorum, just wish we knew her. But, in this remarkable virtual world one cannot help but feel a profound connection to her and marvel at her intelligence, courage and exuberant celebration of life. To say that Ellie is extraordinary is truthfully an understatement.
Ellie has ALS and if you do not know what that horrible, horrible disease is, let her tell you in her own words in this post.
One of her friends (a wonderful new friend of mine), Elizabeth, of the delightful blog, The Vintage Contessa, has written a beautiful post to Ellie. She pays tribute to her and asks all of us to help her. Please do read her post and see what she says and discover the kindness of strangers when Carol enters the picture bearing gifts — you’ll see.
Also, Ellie’s BFF has set up a Go Fund Me page for her to help cover the astronomical costs of this terrible disease. Even the smallest donation adds up when we’re all added together.
If you have a blog, would you be so kind as to simply mention Ellie and her battle and her pluck in the hopes that in some small way all of us can do something for her. It seems to me that Ellie shows us daily how we should live — fight, celebrate, cherish, love and sometimes get really, really, really angry.
