The list of my small extravagances is long and varied. Depending upon my humor, they can be wildly different, even contradictory. One month I might fall in love with a new lip color; the next month I might be obsessed with mangos. There’s no telling really; there is absolutely no rationale.
Except there tends to be one constant in my frivolity: Magazines. French Elle and Figaro Madame arrive every week. I am in awe, totally amazed, that an editorial staff can turn out excellent, mostly interesting fashion magazines 52 times a year.
Added to those treats I also have subscriptions to three of my absolute favorite decorating magazines: Côté Ouest, Côté Sud and Côté Paris. Côté Ouest and Côté Paris have six issues per year, while Côté Sud has six plus a divine special edition.
I decided to subscribe to all three of the above because of a special promotion.
And finally, I have a subscription to Ella à Table which came with an exceptional something-or-other when I renewed my Elle.
One of my special little luxuries includes climbing back into bed of a Sunday morning with a large café au lait and my pile of magazines — pure bliss.
When I’m finished with Elle, Figaro Madame and Elle à Table I distribute them to friends and my French niece. I tend to keep decorating magazines which has turned out to be a huge mistake. I need to have one of those “come to your senses” one-on-ones with myself to see if the decades-old, towering piles meet the “do they make me happy?” criteria.
Also thrown into the mix of all these goodies was one beach towel and a foldable tote for ecological shopping.
What more could a girl desire?
