The more I play with the seemingly endless assortment of little black dresses for summer, the more I’m discovering how much fun it is to play with the accessories — and yes, the colors(!) — that change everything about the mood and the occasion for which they can so perfectly morph into entirely different looks.
The simplest little dresses, and let’s be honest, simple is always best when we want to get the most out of the clothes we buy, can go almost anywhere when we dress them up or down.
I’m almost finished with the series. In fact, I thought today would be the last instalment until I found an absolutely spectacular dress that I will show you on Friday in two interations, plus a little conversation about shoes and skirt lengths.
Meanwhile, you asked me about bare arms and how a Frenchwoman who may not like to expose hers deals with the “problem.” From what I can see, she chooses short sleeves, which for many of us is not the best solution.
Still, many opt to expose their arms and for some reason I didn’t notice whether they were beautifully toned or not. I only noticed how overall chic the women looked. Maybe that’s the trick, concentrate on the whole presentation and don’t obsess about “faults.” Use the details, the personal touches, to direct attention in other directions.
I know that classic sweaters may not be the answer when temperatures soar, but it is possible to find cardigans in cotton or cotton and linen blends which should solve the sleeveless conundrum. Also, once inside with air conditioning, it’s usually necessary to cover up.
For my part, I always find a way to slip my arms into a sleeve of some sort.
