In a perfect world we could be sipping a glass of Bordeaux while wearing a bordeaux cashmere sweater or a deep wine-colored accessory. Since it’s an In color this season — not that we care, I know — it gives a little buzzy fashion statement.
Wines have never been my colors, but I’m coming around to them. I think they can be considered a basic. When you think about it, cépages hues pair delightfully with almost any color. Think: black, grey, navy, camel, other wines, pinks, white. . .
It might be jarring with some reds and greens. It takes a certain pluck to mix wine with red, although I once saw a stunning red coat, double-faced in bordeaux with the turned up sleeves and collar offering a pretty and unexpected contrast. For the faint-hearted, a wine accessory could be a bold statement with a ruby garment.
My plan is to give wine gifts this year. I’m thinking crew neck sweater, amethyst earrings, light ecru notecards with a bordeaux monogram, and perhaps Chanel’s Accessoire nail polish as a stocking stuffer.
What do you think?
