Many years ago I had a friend who was dreaming about buying a tricked-out Range Rover. He definitely did not want the basic model (he already owned one of those) he wanted the latest and the greatest with every bell and whistle on offer.
He called the dealership, explaining that he was an aficionado, a veritable Range Rover fanatic. His preamble convinced the salesman that he was a potentially serious customer.
Then, the salesman said, “Let’s have lunch.”
Now, you know what that means. Translation: We’re talking about serious $$.
He had lunch with the man, apparently they bonded. They remained casual friends for a couple of years There was no sale.
Another approach to alerting prospective customers to the price of their extravagant desires is to label them upfront in a fashion layout for example with the code, “prix sur demand.” You read that and you know, you’re talking several digits after the Euro or dollar signs. It’s fashion’s version of “let’s have lunch.”
Why do I mention this you may be wondering? It’s the Balenciaga turtleneck sweater, completely drenched in crystals. I think it’s beautiful. I imagine it’s weighty. I know it’s expensive. Right next to the words “strass” and Balenciaga was the following phrase: Prix sur demande.
But, just imagine owning it. . .
1.) You would never need to worry about accessories, more may be more, but this little wonder should stand alone. It makes a statement that should not be interrupted by unnecessary embellishment.
2.) Just think of all the places you could wear it.
3.) It would never be démodé.
4.) I can envision it as having covetable vintage appeal in a decade or so.
5.) Think Holidays(!) and Candlelight(!) one would reflect more light than the decorations. (How exciting is that?)
6.) This sweater would guarantee one’s stellar reputation for emitting sparkling style.
If I owned this little number, and let me be clear, I would love to own it, I would try to get on the major Paris party lists. That way I could not only dazzle (ahem), but also amortize the investment.
