One of my very favorite sites is Women’s Voices for Change and occasionally I even have the opportunity to write a post for them. I am most flattered when asked to do so.
Yesterday I discovered a post by the marvelous writer Molly Fisk, wherein she takes a totally unexpected approach to new years. She chooses a word — not a list of resolutions fated to fail — to guide her through the months ahead. She is still pondering her vocabulary options for 2017, but she shares some past choices.
I would tend to think that in the first days of a new year one would tend to select only verbs because they are “actionable” as in “I will do. . .” But two years she found her direction in nouns: Simplicity and Intuition.
Brilliant, don’t you agree?
As you might imagine, her writing set me to pondering about what my 2017 word would be and I think I have decided: It will be Focus. I really, really need an actionable verb and I really, really need to focus.
What do you think of her approach? Are you in this with me?
