It’s that blah time of year — winter refuses to go away and we can’t help wondering when we’ll see even a tiny hint of spring. Mornings are still dark and although the days are getting longer, we’re yearning for more sunlight.
Even those of us preternaturally hardwired to be positive and enthusiastic about each new day, probably need a morale boost in this grey between season hiatus. And, let’s be honest, one tried and true pick-me-up when we’re feeling a little blue is a bit of wardrobe therapy — in navy blue for example.
This is where Halsbrook comes into the therapy. They’ve asked me to put together some ideas to remedy our flagging spirits.
My thinking is to strategize our shopping with items we can wear now to refresh our winter clothes, which may be feeling a tad boring at the moment, with pieces we can continue to wear slightly differently — and definitely not beneath a coat — when spring sets in.
I’ve chosen navy blue as the base. It is a perfect wardrobe foundation for any season and has a very spring sort of feel about it. I’ve assembled a collection of separates that are chicly classic and will add tremendous versatility to any wardrobe. A cashmere sweater cut like a blazer, for example. What’s not to love? And the absolutely brilliant marinière t-shirt with a cotton body and silk chiffon sleeves? Downright covetable I think. Imagine it with navy trousers now and white trousers later. Imagine it with a navy pleated skirt.
Then, who doesn’t need to add another crisp white shirt to her closet? The one with the navy grosgrain ribbon trim is proof, once again, that style is always, always about the details.
