That is to say, cool in both definitions of the word.
The Vichy Minéral 89 Booster Quotidien Fortifiant et Repulpant gel (Fortifying and Plumping Daily Booster) is my latest find and it is sooooo much fun to use, particularly when the temperatures soar.
The “89” refers to the formula, as in 89 percent Vichy mineral water which purportedly contains 15 “rare minerals from the depths of French volcanoes” boosted by an unquantified dose of hyaluronic acid. And you know how much we love hyaluronic acid.
My pharmacist pal, Christine, whom you have met several times in this space, was quite excited about it and encouraged me to try it. “Don’t expect miracles,” she said, “but it really does make a difference. You’ll love it. Put it in the refrigerator.”
So, I followed her counsel, as I always do, and I think Minéral 89 is a little bijou. It’s released through a pump dispenser as a clear gel, which signals, at least psychologically, that it is pure. I do keep it in the refrigerator, which gives me the impression I’m enhancing its efficaciousness.
This is how it is to be used: After cleansing, squirt two drops in your hands — I put one drop in each hand so as not to warm the gel by rubbing my hands together before application — and gently apply to the face in a tap-tap technique, morning and evening. The gel is to be the first step, after cleansing, in our skincare routines.
The promise: Skin that feels “more toned, plumped and hydrated. . . promoting a healthy glow with continued use.” Further, “89 fortifies the skin and makes it more resistant to external aggression, like pollution.”
My take: It pretty much does what it promises. I use it under my night regime. I am too attached to the positive results of Eucerin Hyaluron Filler and Filorga Time-Filler to let that step slide. When one jar is finished, I switch to the other so that my skin does not become “too comfortable” with the same-old-same-old. Dr. Gallais, my dermatologist, always tells me to mix it up for maximum results.
Curiously, I find the fun factor with the consistency of the gel and the fact it is icy cold makes it even more pleasant for me and I have found that after using 89 for almost two months that I have the impression that my skin has a healthy glow and it’s definitely hydrated.
It is a fantastic way to really, really wake up in the morning. You’re ready to start your day whether you want to or not.
I’m now thinking, when the temperatures dip in the autumn, that I may use it under my day cream. At the moment, I have abandoned a day cream over the 89.
Ed. Note: My new promise to you, posts every two to three days as I frantically start to finish my chapters. Thank you, thank you for staying with me. You mean the world to me.
